DIY | No-Sew Ruffled Tree Skirt

November 27, 2011
There are many, many reasons why I love Pinterest and today, I'll share just one of them! :) I first pinned photo #1 (which can actually be purchased here if you're not up for the DIY route) back in early fall when I wasn't quite ready to start thinking about Christmas but couldn't resist the ruffles. Then a few weeks ago, I pinned photo #2 and since I was ready to start decorating I clicked on the pin to see where it actually took me too! Luckily, I stumbled across this tutorial which after reading the post, I saw she got the idea from Miss Mustard Seed who wrote this post (photo #3) sharing about this tutorial she did for HGTV. Shew! Still following the little virtual trail that got me to this post?
Well, after being inspired by those 3 images I decided to take a stab at it! I am decorating with Red Gingham and Aqua this year! That's the color scheme I'll use with my holiday wrapping as well! I'm in love with it! I purchased some white burlap, red gingham,  and a blue and white damask linen. I love how the three fabrics pair together and I'm super happy with how it turned out! I love my little 5 foot tree. It's perfect for my little studio apartment! :)

Give Thanks 2011

November 24, 2011
It's a little late but I just wanted to get a post in before the holiday! I am going to try and stay away from the computer completely as much as possible for the next two days. I'll of course still be connected via my iPhone but hope to only post coupon codes for my shop! We shall see how well I succeed! :)

The photo above is just something a little fun I have been working on. I was bored so I decided to draw out a bible verse - about giving thanks of course! Below is the actual drawing. I went over it with a gold paint pen and it turned out pretty good.

Anyway - I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with good food, wonderful people, and a whole lot of love! I'll be back to blogging on Monday but like Paisley Card Co. on Facebook or follow me on Twitter to get Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday deals! :)

Infontuation | Carolyna Pro

November 22, 2011
I am head over heals for this calligraphy font. I want it, I want it, I want it. I just do not want it's $89 price tag. Not that I don't think she's deserving, because she is. Just look at her! But my frugal pocketbook just can afford her at the present time! So until then, I will continue to visit her at My Fonts and use the sample text box to see how certain words look written with her. Wow. Am I a font nerd or what?

"Carolyna is an elegant, yet whimsically handwritten calligraphy font that was created with readability in mind. It uses open-type features to assist with letter flow and to give each creation that modern, hand-lettered touch. With over 1000 characters, there are many stylistic alternates to choose from, tons of foreign characters so you can write in other languages, and fun swashes to give headings a little something extra."

Ah, I seriously can't get enough.

Small Business Saturday | November 26, 2011

November 21, 2011
You may have heard of Small Business Saturday, but if you haven't I'm hear to tell you about it! It is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. This year is the 2nd annual Small Business Saturday and it is this Saturday, the 26th. The goal is to get millions of people to shop small at their favorite local (or online) stores and help fuel the economy. "When we shop small, it will be huge". I think it's an awesome idea and I hope you will all join me in participating this Saturday, whether by purchasing an item from Paisley Card Co., Button Baby, or some other small business. Small businesses are the heart of America and it's important we support the little guy!

You can find out more on the Small Business Saturday Facebook page or website.

Invitation | Kea's Baby Shower

November 20, 2011
Hello Loves! I hope everyone is enjoying a nice Sunday evening! I'm busy assembling Christmas card orders whilst enjoying a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha and some Mariah Carey Christmas Radio on Pandora! I figure Thanksgiving is in just a few days and I might as well dive right in to all of the holiday goodness! I also have my Spice Pumpkin Pie candle burning so I haven't completely overlooked Thanksgiving - don't you worry!

I just wanted to pop in and share a baby shower invitation I did for Tammy (grandma to be)! The theme was pink and green and all about books! Tammy had a little poem she wanted to be incorporated into the invitation to let guests know to bring baby Klaire a book instead of a card! So fun!

I also designed coordinating water bottle wraps and cupcake toppers for decorating and bookplates so guests could sign the books they brought. They turned out really cute and I love this theme so much I've decided I'm going to be offering it in my shop. I will do some tweaking to the set but it will be pretty much what you see here! The invitations will be printed by me or offered as printables and the coordinating elements (water bottle wraps, cupcake toppers, bookplates) will be available as printables only. Of course I'll let you know when they are finally in the shop, so stay tuned!
I hope to get a few more posts in this week before the holiday, but you just never know! Enjoy your week friends and the time you get to spend with you loved ones! It's what's most important in life! :)

2011 Christmas Cards!

November 17, 2011
It's not too late (or early) to order custom Christmas cards! Just shoot me an email and we can get started! Or head on over to Etsy and check out our pre-designed Christmas card options! One awesome thing about all of the items in our shop is that you can customize them to make them fit your style and photos.
Below, see how Courtney and Chris customized the Red Gingham Christmas Card to accommodate their wedding photo. They also changed the wording to "Merry Christmas Y'all! May the wonder of that first Christmas be with you always." Too cute!

So, go on! Time's running out! Order a custom Christmas design or purchase one of our pre-designed cards! :)

Invitation | Happy Birthday Avery!

November 16, 2011
Oops! I had scheduled this post for today and forgot, so for about 4 hours it's been up with photos only. Which I guess is enough - you get the point - but I still have to get my two-cents in! ;) I just wanted to share the birthday invites I did for little Avery. I can't believe she is already one year old! It feels like yesterday I was designing her birth announcements and she was this small:
Ah, how time flies! Anyway - on to the paper! :) Haley wanted a pretty simple invite because the photo she was using was beautiful. (Taken by Jaiden Photography. If you have a little one and you're in the Jacksonville, FL area seriously look her up. She does amazing work!) The party was going to be decorated with pink and green polka dots so we went with that color scheme and lined the envelopes with pink and white dots!

Two weekends ago I made the trip up to Ohio to celebrate little Miss Avery's first birthday. It was so great to see Haley, Brock, and Avery but it was almost a tease! Too short a visit but only made us realize we need to make plans to get together sooner rather than later! :) I'm so glad they were able to make the trip up from Florida! I made a banner to go above the dessert table and made some cupcake toppers (cake, cupcakes, and brownie balls by AmyCakes - delicious!) as well! It was such a fun day and so good to see good friends!

Give Thanks | Day Eleven

November 11, 2011
Happy Friday, Loves! It's no secret that I have failed tremendously on my Give Thanks posts. I think I was a little over ambitious and I have begun to resent these posts. Which of course is the exact OPPOSITE of what I wanted to accomplish! So! I'm going to take a little pressure off and when I feel thankful for something I will share it. Today, I am feeling especially thankful (& so blessed) so I am going to share 11 things I'm thankful for on 11.11.11. I'm also going to make a wish at 11:11 AM & 11:11 PM so I can cross another thing off my 101 in 1001 list! :)

Today I am thankful for:

1.Veterans. I am so blessed to live in a country where brave men & women protect my rights each and everyday while risking their lives. It's amazing and so selfless.

2. My best, friend Lindsay. Today is her 26th birthday. I have a thing about even-year birthdays and the fact that this year it falls on 11.11.11 just makes me even more positive that this is going to be a great year for her! She is seriously my other half. We are so different in so many ways but yet have so much in common! Love you, bestest! (est, est, est!) :)

3. My grandpa. Yesterday was his 80th (EIGHTIETH) birthday! I love him so much and he has been such an amazing example of what a Godly man should be and has shown me how a husband should treat his wife. He is so sweet and caring and I don't know what I'd do without him! :)
4. The fact that I have nothing planned for this weekend. The month of October (and until last weekend) was crazy. I had something big planned every weekend. They were all fun things and I'm glad they were happening but I am super excited to get some things done around my apartment! :)

5. My new little Instagram widget. I love having a stream of my photos on my sidebar!

6. My job(s). First for my day job because the creative business can be a little fickle and one day you're doing super well and the next things are slow. I get calls everyday from people who are looking for jobs. Most of them have been without work for awhile and it just breaks my heart. I wish we could hire them all. (And I know I've already said I'm thankful for my job, but with this economy, I think it deserves another shout out!)

7. My space heater. Our office is SO cold and today it is actually cold outside (boo-hoo) so I am freeeezzzzing! It's helping work be a little bearable and keeping my feet toasty warm!

8. Pandora. It's pretty slow/quiet in the office today so I'm happy for my "Meet Virginia Radio" today!

9. Pinterest. What was life like before Pinterest? Can you tell me? Because I certainly do not remember. It is hands down the best way to organize inspiration and I have found so many cool projects to do!

10. Mouse traps. Yeah, it's kind of morbid but you do what you gotta do. Last night I set a trap and lets just say I think my mouse problem is solved.

11. Life. That's a pretty broad thing I know but I am so thankful for this life I've been given. I don't always acknowledge how good I have it, but I'm pretty blessed. I want to do better living in the now and not get so wrapped up in my dreams and plans for the future. I'm 25 and I have a whole lot of life ahead of me, God willing, and I don't want to miss a single moment.

So there you have it. That's what I'm most thankful for today! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and I'll see you next week! I'll have some updates from the studio and hopefully be around a bit more frequently! :)

Give Thanks | Day One

November 1, 2011
Well hello, November. So we meet again. It's hard to believe there are only 2 months left in 2011! Where does the time go? I know, I know. I say that every time a new month rolls in! :) Last year, in the month of November, I posted pretty randomly about things I was thankful for. You can view some of those here. This year, I again want to acknowledge what I'm thankful for but with a little bit more structure! Each day I will post a list of things I am thankful for. Today, because it is the first day I will post one thing I am thankful for. Tomorrow, on the second of November, I will post two things I am thankful for. See where I'm going with this? This year has been filled with a lot of "why me's" or "why not me's" and it's pretty sad considering last year I went to Haiti two times (1, 2) and saw hundreds of people with far less than I and yet I still focus on all of the things I do not have or everything I have yet to accomplish. So, in the spirit of this Thanksgiving month, I want to give thanks each and every day of it. As the month goes on it will get pretty tricky since, for example, on November 24th I have to come up with 24 different things I am thankful for and I can't repeat. Once it's all said and done I will have listed 465 different things that I am thankful for! Wow. I'm nervous just thinking about it!

Today, I am thankful for my family! Those God has given to me from birth and those that I have been lucky to have known through the years. I am so blessed to have such a large family who love and support me and I am thankful each and every minute of every day for them - even if I don't always say it, much less show it. So thank you JESUS for the amazing people you have placed into my life! :)
