Haiti : Day 5 - 01.03.11

I'm at the Vet Training Center in Port au Prince. I'm so sad. I cried (of course) today as we drove away from Prosper. I can't believe we already left again. It feels like we just got here and now I'm already leaving them. We finished the pastor's house. All that is left is a back door and some shudders for the windows. We left enough money with Art for them to be able to purchase those. It feels so awesome to know that I was a part of something so great. There aren't many things that mean more to a person than a home, and that's what we (along with our amazing church) were able to give Pastor François.

Pastor François & I
I felt kind of useless again today. We stayed up at the church to watch the house being completed & again, there wasn't much for me to do. That is until I decided to help the women carry up water for the concrete. Yeah - as helpful as I was being, it wasn't my smartest decision! How in the world they carry 50 lb buckets up a hill on their head is beyond me. At first they wouldn't let us help them carry the water, so we would just help them lift the buckets up on their heads. Lemme tell ya, that in itself is hard. Eventually, after they had made many tiring trips, they let us help. I didn't even attempt to carry it on my head because we all know how that would have ended up. It was exhausting and the most work I had done all week, but I'm glad we got to help.

Art came in the afternoon sometime and we all said our goodbyes. Those are never easy.  I taught Kenda how to say I love you. I'm pretty sure she has no clue what it means but she just kept saying I love you, I love you, I love you. It was adorable. Once we got to the training center we went on a walk to get Coke like we had done the last trip. It was yummy, of course. They even had Cokes and Sprites for us at dinner time so we got double the caffeine! Kinda gave me a headache after going all week with only water! Tomorrow, we are going to the orphanage. I'm excited to see the progress Marie has made since we were here last. Pastor Steve said when he came in November it was so much better and we would be really pleased, so I'm excited for that.
