Happy Memorial Day.

Road Called Life

May 28, 2010
I have finally decided on a name for this blog! When I started blogging regularly I named it "Simply Steph" because that pretty much sums it up! This blog is simply, about me! :) But, that name is generic and I don't even wanna know how many other bloggers named Stephanie have named their blog something along those lines!

I have decided on "Road Called Life". For starters, we're all on this road trying to navigate through life! A second reason I chose this name is a quote from Sex & the City {the series}.

It just seems perfect for my life in this moment! Big changes are happening, like I'M GRADUATING in about 2 weeks! I'm guessing I'm going to feel sort of lost for awhile until I discover what my role in life will now be.

Of course this means the blog will be getting a new look! Not going to make too big of a change because I really like the simplistic look it has right now so I really probably just change the header where now it says "Simply Steph"! Anyway, just a little update! More blogging to come! :)

Sex & the City 2 | Big & Carrie's Apartment

May 26, 2010
Well the time is finally here - Sex & the City 2 hits theaters tonight at 12:01! I'm going with my roommate Chelsea! I'm so excited & can't wait to see it! The tv series was great, but the movies are on a whole other level of chic! I love it! I'm going to see it again on Sunday with my best friends! :)

HGTV shared a sneak peek of Big & Carries Manhattan apartment! It's SO beautiful!
See more of Big & Carrie's apartment here.

Happy Birthday Kathryn Elizabeth!

May 22, 2010
{Christmas a few years ago in Tennessee}

My baby sister turned 14 today! Ahh! I can't believe it! Where has the time gone? I'm in Nashville visiting my dad & family right now! Today was so fun! We went over to my Aunt Christie's for Katie's party! I got to meet her {current} boyfriend. You know how that age is. A new boyfriend every month! :) He was so cute, sweet, & polite. A little too polite... he called me mam! That was a first for me! I'm only 24, I can't be a mam yet! Can I? I guess when you're 13/14 24 is old! haha Oh well, I'm sure it won't be the last time I'm called that in my life! Better get used to it!

Happy Birthday Katiebug! I love you baby sister!! :)

Nashville Flood Tees: Help Flood Victims!

May 21, 2010
Nashville Flood Tees
I was born in Nashville and I have a lot of family who live in Tennessee. Thank the Lord they were not affected by this flood like so many people were! It's so sad that the national news just skimmed over the coverage of this tragedy! Many people lost their homes, their belongings, and their lives! Click the photo above to see how you can help out! All proceeds go to the flood victims!

Happy Birthday Casey Lee!

May 18, 2010
Today is my wonderful friend Casey Lee's 24th birthday! (Another one bites the dust!) Wow. This picture is an oldie but a definitely a goodie! Casey & I have been friends since middle school and although we've had our ups and downs (as all friends do) I value her friendship so much! She is the smart, practical one but always listens to my crazy ideas! I know no matter where life takes us she will always be a dear friend to me!

Some reasons I love Casey Lee:
1. She's stubborn, but always stands up for what she believes.
2. Her "Casey-isms".
3. Her undying faith.
4. She loves me even though she knows me.
5. Always there for me whenever I need her.

DIY | Headboard by Brooke

May 17, 2010
I have been wanting to make my own upholstered headboard for awhile now. I thought I had finally decided how I wanted it to look and how I wanted to go about doing it. That is, until I saw this tutorial featured on Made by Girl! Now, it's got me thinking all over again!

The headboard is gorgeous and makes a huge statement in this master bedroom!

Check out the rest of Brooke's blog All Things Thrifty. It's a great place for inspiration!

Rainy Days & Mondays...

Always get me down. Just kidding, but great Carpenters song! I actually don't care that its rainy today because I am stuck on campus all day! Mondays are my longest day so it's nice to get them out of the way early on!

Thursday I leave for Nashville! So excited to spend the weekend with my dad & little sister! She turns 14 on Saturday! That is absolutely crazy!!

Well, just stopping in to say hello! I will probably blog more later to avoid the never-ending list of things on my to do list!

Roommate Survival Guide | Rule #07

May 16, 2010
In most cases, your roommates are your friends, so this rule should be a no brainer but even if the only relationship you have is sharing the cable bill, this rule is still very important & should be followed to ensure a happy living situation!

Here's just a little story from my past...
{Names have been changed to protect the included parties! hehe}

My roommates and I (minus Lauren) had just returned to the Dollhouse (what we called our adorable, yellow house for the year) from a wonderful, weekend road trip to Chicago. We had gone to support our school's football team on the road, and it was a great excuse for a mini vacation.

Upon our return, Lauren was filling us in on her weekend in Columbus with us. Apparently she had met this really great, cute guy named Casey and they were going to dinner later that night. I had run upstairs to take my bags up and go to the restroom. While still in the bathroom, I hear Lauren continuing to tell Olivia about this "new" guy. The more information she gave up, the more Olivia thought he seemed oddly similar to a guy she had hooked up with the past Fourth of July - which is a whole other story I may or may not tell you about later! ;) Still upstairs, I hear Olivia say, "Wouldn't it be funny if it was Casey Caldwell?" (said guy from the Fourth of July). She laughed the thought off thinking it couldn't possibly be true. There was a pause from Lauren and a blank stare on her face. She asked, "What did you just say?" Olivia replied, "Casey Caldwell. You know that guy who had the black eye?" (See I told you there was another story about him..) Even from upstairs I could sense the awkwardness and I think to myself, "Noway. That can't possibly be the same guy. What are the odds?"

Well sure enough, after Lauren called Mr. Caldwell to get the 411, it was confirmed that he was in fact the guy with the black eye. Lauren was disappointed because this obviously changed the way she looked at this "great" guy. She decided to go ahead and keep their dinner plans but was going to tell him they could only be friends considering the situation. Or so we thought.

A couple months had passed since the strange, coincidental situation and we started noticing some things that just didn't add up. Lauren would randomly leave the house without telling us where she was going, and one Sunday afternoon she went to the movies. Alone. We obviously thought this was weird but really didn't figure out what was going on until one night at the bar.

I had gone to Nashville for the weekend to visit my dad but while I was sleeping I was awakened by many drunken phone calls from Olivia and Sommer. Apparently, Lauren had left them at the bar without telling them she was leaving or where she was going. Olivia was casually going through her text messages and thats when she found the evidence.

Lauren's phone had died and so she had borrowed Olivia's. Which normally would be fine, but Lauren used Olivia's phone to send text messages to Casey Caldwell asking him to come pick her up at the bar. This made Olivia furious because she had already made it clear, that Lauren hanging out with Casey made her uncomfortable and she had asked Lauren not to bring him to the house for obvious reasons. On top of crossing the line and hanging out with him anyway, Lauren used Olivia's phone to place her booty call. This was just all sorts of wrong.

Needless to say, things were a little awkward in the Dollhouse and the two didn't talk for about a day. Olivia finally confronted Lauren about how she was feeling and why she was uncomfortable with the whole situation. Lauren understood and apologized for making her feel that way over a guy who didn't mean much anyway. Or at all for that matter.

The lesson learned here was not to hook up with the same guy as your roommate. Nothing good ever comes out of it and a lot of feelings get hurt along the way.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

May 15, 2010

I hope it's as beautiful where you are as it is where I am! The sun is shining and I am in a wonderful mood! Running a few errands today & then babysitting later tonight! Just thought I'd stop in & wish everyone a wonderful weekend!

Roommate Survival Guide

May 13, 2010

Your college roommate(s) may be one of your most difficult relationships you'll ever have to deal with. Even if you genuinely like your roommate as a person it doesn't necessarily make for an easy road. No matter how much you may enjoy your friends, there are simple rules that must be followed when living together. That is, if you or your friendship want to survive.

{These rules aren't just for those in college. They are rules for everyone living with anyone!}

  1. Discuss important issues & establish rules.
  2. Respect each other.
  3. Clean up after yourself. (Dishes, clothes, food, etc.)
  4. Ask before you borrow anything.
  5. Don't leave doors/windows unlocked.
  6. Take turns with chores.
  7. Do not hook up with the same guys.
  8. Always look out for a friend whose had too much to drink.
  9. Communication is key.
  10. Do not leave your roommate alone with a creepy guy.
  11. Be nice & welcoming to your roommates guests.
  12. Never leave a fellow man behind. Ever.
  13. Do not call each other sluts.
  14. Help each other when you fall down, but laugh hysterically while doing it.
  15. Being drunk is never an excuse.
  16. Do not change the volume on each other's technologies. (Radio, TV, computer, etc.)
  17. Be courteous.
  18. Always talk things out.
  19. Have fun with each other.
  20. Be willing to compromise.
Stay tuned for more {RSG: Real Life Stories} showcasing why all of these rules are important!

I Really, Really Need This...

May 12, 2010

Ok, so maybe I don't need this but it would be really awesome/nice/fun to have one! It's basically in between my iPhone & my Mac Book Pro! Perfectly in the middle of the road!

You can browse the web, upload photos, check email, read iBooks. There is a calender, GPS, and iWork is even available on it! (That's the equivalent of Microsoft Office for those of you who aren't aware).

Of course there are the critics but I can't wait 'til the next wave of iPads come out because it will only get better! And hopefully the price will go down too so my recent college-grad wallet can afford to buy one!

Ahh, if only money grew on trees! :)

Don't Ask Don't Tell?

I saw this posted on someone's Facebook & thought it was.. umm, interesting. Ok, actually I thought it was hilarious. The thought of these soldiers out in the desert dancing to Ke$ha is pretty entertaining. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people who have something negative to say. Sometimes I don't understand why people can't just take things for what they're are. This is just a bunch of guys trying to waste time out in a desert while they fight for OUR freedom. Hopefully no one gets out of hand & tries to cause trouble for these guys. They clearly are not making fun of homosexuals and they aren't trying to say whether or not they believe homosexuals belong in the army. Anyway, take a look.. it's pretty comical!

So what do you think of the new look for my blog? I know it's pretty simple but I really like it!

Here is the before:

Which of course I still think is beautiful! I just get bored pretty easily & I had that look about 2 months so it was time to switch things up! I even got rid of my Pretty Blog Titles. I was so excited to have them, but - I'm over them already! I also added the Link Within widget which I think is pretty cool! It's shows other posts by me that a viewer may also be interested in!

Here is the after:

(For future readers since I'm sure this look will not last very long either!)

Out Sick Today!

May 10, 2010
I have pink eye. Ew. Yesterday my eyes were bothering me & I just assumed it was because my contacts are the wrong prescription. So I took them out and as the night progressed my right eye kept watering really bad. I went to bed pretty early and woke up around 4 am-- with my eye matted shut. Ew. Ew. Ew. I was freaking out. Once I was finally up for the day around 10 am I asked my roommate Chelsea if she had ever had pink eye to see if she could confirm my suspicions. Turned out, she woke up with pink eye too! Weird considering we spent the whole weekend in different cities! I went to the Minute Clinic at CVS and they gave me some eye drops! So hopefully soon this ugly eye will be gone! On the plus side I got to miss classes today because I was contagious! :) On the down side I can't wear eye makeup or my contacts for the rest of the week! Bummer!

Well, that's all from me for the day! Have a great week!

Happy Mother's Day!

May 9, 2010

In honor of Mother's Day, I thought I'd talk a little about my mom (who's the greatest by the way). I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful woman as my mother. She is seriously the nicest & most beautiful (inside & out) person I know. It's really not fair that she ended up with such a smart-mouth child (that being me), but somehow she's survived it! - So far!

This is just the tip of the iceberg but here are some reasons I love my Mamma :)
  • For letting me learn from my own mistakes.
  • Always being on my side, even when I'm wrong.
  • Always telling me she loves me.
  • Teaching me how to sing on key.
  • The way she mushes her lips together when petting a dog or holding a baby.
  • For being my #1 fan.
  • The way she giggles like a little girl when she's tickled.
  • For always taking lots of pictures.
  • For putting up with my smart mouth.
  • Taking care of Oliver (my dog) while I'm away at school.
  • Trying to make (sew) me clothes.
  • The way she always sings harmony with every song.
  • For always forgiving me.
  • Making my favorite meal each year on my birthday.
  • Being proud of me.
  • For being creative.
  • Helping me w/my hair even though she knows I'll find something not to like about it.
  • Letting me steal her makeup, clothes, & nail polish.
  • Always giving me Valentines.
  • Finding an amazing man to take care of our family.
  • For rubbing my arm in church.
  • The little notes she put in my lunches or with the things I forgot to bring to school.
  • For always bringing me things I had forgotten to school.
  • Making Christmas special no matter how much money we have.
  • Making a home that all my friends wanted to hang out at.
  • Having a good relationship with my Dad & never putting my sister & I in the middle.
  • Teaching me right from wrong without being too strict or overbearing.
  • Surprising me with a new shirt or dress on my bed when I come home.
  • Making me my scrapbook for graduation.
  • Always helping me decorate my room so cute.
  • For sending me care packages.
  • For letting me make my own decisions.
  • Never pushing her ideas for my life on me.
  • Her unconditional love.
I guess you won't and can't possibly understand a mother's love until you're a mother yourself. It's hard to understand why they keep loving you. I know there have been plenty of times I've said or done something to hurt my mom but she still there. Always. No matter what. Thank goodness 'cause I'm not sure what I would do without her! I'm so lucky to have such a good relationship with her. Seeing some of my friends with their mom's only makes me feel that much more lucky. Like I said above, she never pushes the ideas that she has for my life on me. She realizes that I'm an adult and I'm going to make my own decisions. That being said, I value her opinion extremely & there isn't anything I can think of that I would do without her approval!

I don't know what else to say, but she's the greatest!

I love you Mamma, Happy Mother's Day! :)

Happy Cinco de Mayo

May 5, 2010

How yummy does that look? I wish I was back home eating at El Ranco Grande & enjoying a JUMBO one of these! Hmm, that'd sure be nice! Instead I am in Columbus working on a take home midterm. Take home midterm? you say... No, its not what you think. It's hard, way above my head & its depressing me just thinking about it! But, on that note, I need to go get started on it! It's due tomorrow! Hope everyone else gets to enjoy a margarita! :)

What time is it??

I'd be able to tell you if I had this watch!! I really, really, really want this watch! Ever since I saw The Blind Side I have wanted it! Sandra Bullock wears either this watch, or one very similar! Probably the Rolex version! haha This one is by Fossil & I love it! Sooo, anyone feeling generous.. send this little beauty my way! Ok, that's all! Back to the books! :)

Flash Mob at the Ohio Union 5/3/2010 - The Ohio State University

May 4, 2010
This is absolutely the coolest thing I've seen in awhile! A group of OSU students broke out into dance at the new Ohio Union yesterday! Man, I wish I would have been there! Better yet, I wish I would have been involved! haha This is one of the many, many reasons I LOVE BEING A BUCKEYE! :)
